Rowing’s Varsity 8 Advances to Grand Final at NCAA Championships

The crew will race for a national title in Sunday’s main event at 10:48 a.m.
SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 7 Rutgers rowing will be represented in Sunday's grand finals at the NCAA Championships at Nathan Benderson Park. The Scarlet Knights' Varsity 8 boat placed third in their A/B semifinal on Saturday morning to earn the chance to race for a national championship in the regatta's main event on Sunday at 10:48 a.m. ET.
The Varsity 8 crew turned in a time of 6:14.057 to take third and grab one of the three berths to Sunday's grand final. RU finished just 0.4 seconds behind No. 5 Michigan for second as No. 1 Texas won the semifinal race in 6:09.073.
The Second Varsity 8 placed fifth in their A/B semifinal in 6:29.968 and will race in Sunday's petite final to determine national places seventh through 12th. That race is scheduled for 10:12 a.m. on Sunday.
The Varsity 4 fell just 2.2 seconds shy of the grand final, placing fourth in their A/B semifinal in 7:08.803. They will also compete in Sunday's petite final to determine seventh through 12th place at the NCAA Championships.
