Men’s Soccer Announces Fall 2021 Schedule
Jun 14 | Men's Soccer
The slate features 13 home matches at Yurcak Field
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's soccer has announced its 16-match schedule for the Fall 2021 season, featuring 10 regular season home dates at Yurcak Field, three exhibitions, several regional rivalry fixtures on the non-conference slate, and eight Big Ten contests.
The new season begins on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Yurcak Field against Delaware, marking the first non-conference match for the Scarlet Knights since Oct. 29, 2019 at Lehigh.
"Our team and staff could not be more excited to announce a full schedule for the Fall of 2021," said third-year head coach Jim McElderry. "We will be playing 13 times this season at Yurcak Field and cannot wait for those days and nights. We have one of the best natural grass surfaces in the country and look forward to hosting some excellent teams this Fall."
Rutgers will also host Temple (Aug. 30), Mount St. Mary's (Sept. 6), Lehigh (Sept. 10), St. Joseph's (Sept. 13), and UPenn (Sept. 20), while traveling to Princeton (Sept. 3) and UConn (Oct. 26) to round out the non-conference portion of the Fall schedule.
Big Ten play begins on Sept. 17 on the road at Indiana, the Spring 2021 NCAA College Cup runner-up and reigning Big Ten Tournament champions. Other Big Ten road dates include Maryland (Sept. 28), Northwestern (Oct. 15), and Michigan (Oct. 22).
RU hosts four Big Ten matches against Wisconsin (Sept. 24), Penn State (Oct. 5), Michigan State (Oct. 10), and Ohio State (Oct. 31).
"Our Big Ten schedule will be extremely challenging as usual, but we are confident after a good Spring season against these top teams," McElderry said. "Our out-of-conference schedule sees us playing a few similar teams from 2019, but also adding a few new opponents as well in Delaware, UConn and Princeton. It is great to have Princeton back on our schedule as we hope to be able to keep this game against Jimmy Barlow's team for many years to come."
Rutgers last played Princeton in 2017 – a 1-0 victory for the Scarlet Knights away from home. The 2021 date will be the 60th contest played between the two New Jersey schools since 1942.
The Scarlet Knights will tune up with three home exhibitions against St. John's (Aug. 13), Fordham (Aug. 17), and Syracuse (Aug. 21).
