Two-Time NJSIAA State Champion Dean Peterson Signs with Wrestling

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Two-time NJSIAA state champion and three-time state finalist Dean Peterson has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete with Rutgers wrestling. The St. John Vianney standout will compete at either 125 or 133 pounds at the collegiate level and is immediately eligible for the 2021-22 season.
Peterson finished his scholastic career with 72 consecutive victories, including individual state titles in 2019 and 2020. Also a runner up as a freshman in 2018, Peterson sat out his 2021 senior season due to injury and closed out his high school tenure with a 108-2 record. One of the top recruits in the country, Peterson was pegged the No. 1 individual at 126 pounds by FloWrestling.
During his time at SJV, Peterson also secured two Region 6 titles, three district crowns and three Shore Conference Tournament championships. The Barnegat, New Jersey, native also captured an individual Beast of the East title and finished fifth at Super 32.
Peterson joins an already loaded signing class that features Michael Cetta, Joey Olivieri, Dylan Weaver and Anthony White, along with collegiate transfers Greg Bulsak (Clarion) and Nicholas Raimo (Arizona State).
Under the guidance of head coach Scott Goodale, Rutgers closed the 2021 season with three All-Americans in the same year for the first time in program history, as Sebastian Rivera (fourth), John Poznanski (fourth) and Jackson Turley (eighth) all earned All-America honors at the 2021 NCAA Championships in St. Louis. Along with two-time NCAA qualifiers Michael VanBrill (149) and Billy Janzer (197), RU produced 13 victories at nationals en route to a 13th-place finish with 37.5 team points. All return for the 2021-22 campaign.
