Senior Frankie Tagliferri recorded two goals and an assist, leading the season statistics with three goals and three assists across two games. Sophomores Sara Brocious, Sam Kroeger, and Emily Sapienza recorded goals as well, making the second goal of the year for each.
Freshman Riley Tiernan added three assists, classmates Emily Mason and Kylie Daigle, and senior Nicole Binkley each notched a helper as well. It marked the first assists of all four of their careers. Overall, eight Scarlet Knights contributed to scoring in the win, as 11 total different players have registered points so far this year.
"We have a lot of talent this year individually, but I think that when you play together it's a whole other level. Today we finally found our rhythm. As the season goes on, we're just going to build more and more chemistry and we're going to get so much better," said Tiernan.
"The offense is starting to build really good chemistry and we're starting to find each other's feet. We're making quick connections and finding the goal," said sophomore Allison Lowrey"
Defensively, Rutgers held Providence to just single shots overall in the match, extending its streak to 19 straight matches holding opponents to just single digits in shots on the stat sheet. Senior goalkeeper Meagan McClelland stopped three of four shots on goal in the contest.
"On the attacking side today we were really strong and had a lot of chances," said Binkley. "The first two games it's been really good that we're finishing a lot of our chances. Of course we want more and we're definitely growing from every game that we play.
"On the defensive side, our standard is no service, no shots, no goals. We're going to learn from today's game, move forward and keep the focus on getting clean sheets. We'll definitely take away a lot from this one and every game that we play this year. In practice this week, we're going to build off of it, get ready for our next game on Friday, and keep moving forward."
