ROSEMONT, Ill. – Rutgers junior goalkeeper
Oren Asher has been named the Big Ten Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his performance during the period ending Aug. 30.

Asher led the Rutgers defense to two consecutive shutouts to begin the 2021 season. Asher made four saves in the 2-0 season opening victory over Delaware on Thursday, and made his only save in the scoreless draw with Temple on Monday in the 58
th minute on a sprawling stop of a close-range shot to the near post. Asher now has nine career shutouts in 29 matches "On the Banks."

Asher is one of five goalkeepers across NCAA Division I with 200 or more minutes played to not allow a goal. The Rutgers defense is one of 12 units in the nation to not allow a goal through two matches.

The Herzliya, Israel native claims his third career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor after scoring two during the Spring 2021 season. He is the only Rutgers goalkeeper to own multiple Defensive Player of the Week nods from the Big Ten.

Asher and the Scarlet Knights play their first road match of 2021 on Friday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at Princeton on ESPN+.
