Tagliafferri tabbed Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Tiernan tabbed Freshman of the Week
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Frankie Tagliaferri and freshman Riley Tiernan of Rutgers Women's Soccer have been named Big Ten Players of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Tagliaferri earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Tiernan was tabbed Freshman Player of the Week. The duo lifted the Scarlet Knights to a 5-1 victory over Providence on Sunday to push Rutgers to 2-0 on the year.

Tagliaferri posted two goals and an assist to establish a new career high in points with five. It also marked the eighth brace of her career. The midfielder's goals came back-to-back and just seven minutes apart in the game to extend the Scarlet Knight lead to 4-0 en route to the 5-1 win.
The Colts Neck, New Jersey, native leads the team with nine points on the year, including three goals and three assists across her first two games as a Scarlet Knight. The recognition is Tagliaferri's third weekly award in her career from the league. Tagliaferri was also named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week.

Tiernan recorded three assists in the win, one shy of the program's single-game record of four which was set in 1989. The forward set up sophomore Sara Brocious for RU's opening goal just five minutes into the game. The Voorhees, New Jersey, native went on to assist both of Tagliaferri goals minutes apart as well.
Starting the first two games of her career, Tiernan has posted a goal and three assists to rank third on the team. It marks the first weekly honor of her career.
The No. 16 ranked Scarlet Knights are back in action on Friday, Sept. 3, hosting Monmouth for an in-state matchup. Start time is set for 7 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field with free admission and parking.
