Ron Harper Jr. Named All-Met Player of the Week Following Michigan and Nebraska Performances
Jan 11 | Men's Basketball
NEW YORK (Jan. 11, 2022) --- Ron Harper Jr. of Rutgers, for the second time this season in Division I, and Ronnie Silva of Adelphi in Divisions II/III have been named Men's Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Jan. 3-9, are unique in that they encompass players from 69 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 6-6 senior forward from Franklin Lakes, NJ, Harper averaged 24.5 points per game last week in leading the Scarlet Knights (9-5, 3-1) to a pair of Big Ten Conference victories at home over Michigan (75-67) and Nebraska (93-65). The triumphs extended Rutgers' current winning streak to four games and pushed its Jersey Mike's Arena homecourt won-loss mark to 46-7 over three seasons.
Harper had 20 points and six rebounds in the Scarlet Knights first-ever win over Michigan in school history last Tuesday. He nailed 7-of-13 shots from the floor, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range.
Harper followed on Thursday with 29 points against Nebraska, one shy of his career high, as he connected on 8-of-13 shots from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and hit all 10 of his shots from the free throw line.
