
Aird, Joyner Named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Freshman Elia Aird and junior Hannah Joyner of Rutgers have been named 2022 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch. The Scarlet Knights begin their season on Friday, Jan. 7 on the road, competing against host Florida, Northern Illinois and Texas Women's.
Last season, Joyner made history as the third Rutgers gymnast to compete at Nationals, becoming the first to qualify to the highest stage on beam. The then-sophomore also became the first Scarlet Knight to have reached a 9.9 on all four events, posting career bests of 9.950 on beam, 9.900 on bars, beam and floor. She owns a 39.450 career-high score in all-around.
The Waldorf, Maryland, native eclipsed 9.9 on beam six times last season and 13 times in her career, standing as RU's record holder in total career 9.9s.The social work major was named a 2021 Academic All-Big Ten and WCGA Scholastic All-America selection for her work in the classroom. She is named a captain for the 2022 season.
Aird begins her first year as a Scarlet Knight hailing from Winter Garden, Florida. She joins the program as a JO National Qualifier, having competed in club gymnastics from 2008-2021. Aird graduated in the top 3% of her class at Windermere High School. She will compete all-around for Rutgers.
