
Gymnastics Wins Session I at Big Tens

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Rutgers gymnastics won session one at Big Ten Championships with a score of 195.700 on Friday night at the State Farm Center.
Emily Leese set a career high with a 9.950 on floor to win the event, while Delaney Adrian delivered a 9.900 on bars for the Scarlet Knights. In the all-around, Gabrielle Dildy once again won the crown, posting a 39.325.
As a team, Rutgers defeated the trio of hosts Illinois, Nebraska and Washington. RU is now guaranteed a finish of at least ninth in the conference championships and posted the third-highest score at the event in program history.
"This team is fighters. They came in with a lot of energy and I think we saw that. We won the session, so that's huge," head coach Anastasia Candia said. "When our expectations are higher, that makes us want it that much more. I'm so proud of them. They fought through every single event and we had some really great routines all around. That's just a testament to them being on this stage."
The Scarlet Knights opened things on floor, posting their second-highest score of the season with a 49.275. Leese's performance (9.950) highlighted the event, along with strong showings from Adrian (9.850) and Dildy (9.850).
On vault, RU posted a 48.750, highlighted by 9.800's from Dildy and Reagan Schenkel.
Adrian's 9.900 led the team on bars, while Dildy added a 9.825.
Finishing the meet on beam, the Scarlet Knights earned a 48.700 with a 9.850 from Dildy and a 9.800 from Matis Rains.
