No. 12 Wrestling Faces No. 16 Wisconsin Sunday in Madison

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Fresh off its win against Indiana, No. 12 Rutgers (11-0, 1-0) faces No. 16 Wisconsin (5-0, 1-0) on Sunday in Madison. The dual is slated for a 1 p.m. ET start at UW Field House and will stream via Big Ten Plus.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Rutgers opened the Big Ten Conference dual season with a dominant 29-7 win over Indiana on Friday night in front of 3,093 fans at Jersey Mike's Arena.
  • No. 4 Sebastian Rivera (141), No. 5 John Poznanski (184) and No. 30 Dylan Shawver (125) all delivered wins over ranked Hoosiers, as the Scarlet Knights secured their first 11-0 start to a season in program history.
  • No. 26 Jackson Turley (174) worked a tech fall, while Rivera, Shawver and No. 7 Greg Bulsak (197) all added majors against Indiana. Poznanski picked up one of the biggest wins of his collegiate career with a 4-2 decision over No. 8 DJ Washington.
  • Rutgers secured its first 11-0 start to a dual season in program history. The Scarlet Knights opened the 1960 season 10-0-1 and have competed on the varsity level since 1930.
SCOUTING WISCONSIN
  • Wisconsin moved to 5-0 with its come-from-behind 19-15 win over No. 23 Northwestern on Friday night in Madison. Trailing 9-0 after the first three bouts of the night, the Badgers won five of their final seven matchups to work a 5-5 match split and a victory in their Big Ten opener.
  • No. 11 Austin Gomez (149) picked off No. 4 Yahya Thomas by decision, while No. 17 Andrew McNally (165) added a ranked win by major decision against the Wildcats.
  • Wisconsin is No. 16 in the latest NWCA coaches poll under fourth-year head coach Chris Bono.
  • Rutgers is 2-3 all-time against the Badgers but have won the last two matchups in the series. The Scarlet Knights prevailed by criteria in a 17-16 win on Jan. 11, 2019 in Piscataway. RU also defeated Wisconsin 24-12 on Feb. 16, 2018 in Madison.
  • Associate head coach Donny Pritzlaff was a two-time national champion at Wisconsin from 1998-2001 and also served as an assistant with the program from 2007-11.
WHAT TO KNOW
  • Four RU starters - Bulsak, Poznanski, Rivera and Michael VanBrill (149) - own undefeated records heading into the heart of the Big Ten dual season. The quartet is a combined 47-0 this season with wins over 14 ranked opponents.
  • Rutgers remained No. 12 in the country in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll. The Big Ten features 11 ranked programs, including the top-three teams in the country (No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 Penn State and No. 3 Michigan.
  • With a 100 percent bonus rate, Rivera is No. 7 in FloWrestling's Hodge Trophy rankings. Rivera is looking to become the program's first Hodge Trophy finalist since current assistant coach Anthony Ashnault in 2019 after his 32-0 season and individual title at 149 pounds.
  • Rivera is just two wins away from 100 for his career.
  • Scott Goodale is just six wins away from the 200th dual victory as head coach.

  • Rutgers hosts No. 24 Illinois on Friday, Jan. 14 (7 p.m., Big Ten Plus) before it heads to State College to face No. 2 Penn State (5 p.m., ESPN).
