PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football (4-3, 1-3) defeated Indiana (3-5, 1-4), 24-17, on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights scored 24 unanswered points against the Hoosiers on Homecoming for their first Big Ten victory of the season.

Indiana scored two touchdowns to open the game before Rutgers responded with its first scoring drive of the day. The Scarlet Knights orchestrated an 11-play, 86-yard scoring driving, capped by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Vedral to Ryan to make it 14-7 with 9:53 left in the half.
The defense held strong for the remainder of the quarter, as Rutgers headed into the locker room trailing just 14-7. The Scarlet Knight's held IU to just 44 total yards in the second quarter, while P
Adam Korsak drilled three punts in the final seven minutes of the half to help RU control field position prior to the midway point.

Jude McAtamney drilled a 49-yard field-goal attempt to cut the lead to 14-10 in favor of Indiana. The Scarlet Knights then added a touchdown on their next possession, as Brown V scored on a two-yard rush up the middle to give RU its first lead of the afternoon at 17-14 with just under a minute to go in the third. The running touchdown highlighted a 12-play, 56-yard scoring drive, with Brown accounting for 34 yards on six carries.
RU forced a three-and-out right before the end of the third quarter to hold onto its three-point lead with 15 to play. Rutgers dominated time of possession in the third quarter, as IU had the ball for just 1:15 in the quarter and accounted for -2 yards of offense in the frame.
The Scarlet Knights continued its impressive effort on defense in the fourth quarter. Indiana attempted a 51-yard field goal with 7:37 left in the game, but the try went wide left to keep the score at 17-14.
With the Hoosiers looking to put together a go-ahead drive, the RU defense came up big again. Braswell intercepted a pass at the IU 12-yard line and returned it for a touchdown to make the score 24-14 with 5:12 remaining.

- Rutgers defeated Indiana for the second-straight season and for the fourth time overall.
- Rutgers holds a winning record (4-3) through seven games for the first time since 2014.
- Rutgers scored 24 unanswered points, its second-best scoring run in a Big Ten game after the 28 to finish the 2015 win at Indiana.
- Rutgers holds a +9 turnover margin since 2020 (47 forced). That includes an 9-0 record when not committing a turnover in a game.
- Rutgers held the ball for 38:53, its highest time of possession in a Big Ten game since entering the league. That included holding the ball for 13:45 in the third quarter compared to 1:15 by Indiana. The Hoosiers entered the day averaging 79 offensive plays per game and ran just 60 in the game.
- Rutgers improved to 11-5 under head coach Greg Schiano directly off an open week.
- Rutgers won for the fourth time since 2020 when trailing at halftime in a Big Ten game. It was the sixth such occurrence overall.
- Rutgers played a Homecoming game for the 88th time, improving to 54-33-1.
- Rutgers is now 56-6 under Schiano when allowing less than 20 points in a game, 57-19 when winning the turnover battle, 58-9 when having more rushing yards, 27-3 when allowing no sacks and 61-35 when permitting less than 20 first downs.
- The defense held has now held its opponent to under 75 rushing yards in 5-of-7 games after limiting Indiana to 62.
- RB Samuel Brown V rushed for 101 yards on 28 carries to set career highs. It was the most rushing attempts by a Scarlet Knight in a Big Ten game since entering the league, most by a Rutgers true freshman since Marcus Jones had 30 on Nov. 3, 2001, at West Virginia and most overall since Paul James' 29 at Washington State on Aug. 28, 2014. The previous Rutgers true freshman to run for 100 or more yards in a game was Isiah Pacheco versus No. 4 Michigan on Nov. 10, 2018. Brown scored his third touchdown of the season to put Rutgers ahead in the third quarter.
- QB Noah Vedral found WR Sean Ryan for a 15-yard touchdown pass, Ryan's sixth career score. Vedral ranks ninth in program history with 334 completions as a Scarlet Knight, two behind Chas Dodd (336 from 2010-13).
- DB Christian Braswell recorded his team-leading third interception on four passes defended. He return the pick 12 yards for a touchdown, the 58th non-offensive touchdown for Rutgers under Schiano and second of the season.
- PK Jude McAtamney hit a 49-yard field goal, matching his longest of the season. He has made a field goal in all seven games, the longest streak since Kyle Federico had a make in nine-straight games (last game of 2013, first eight games of 2014).
- P Adam Korsak booted a season-long 66-yard punt, his 12th career attempt of at least 60 yards.
