Penn State opened with a 7-1 advantage, but midway thru Rutgers was able to whittle down its deficit to four. Swings by Taylor Humphrey and Alissa Kinkela saw RU trail 12-8 while a Bekah Williams kill and blocks from Kristina Grkovic and Kinkela had the Scarlet Knights down 14-10. The Lions responded with three-straight points and closed out the frame on a 5-0 run.
  • SET 2 (15-25) | It was another hot start for Nittany Lions as they raced out to an 8-1 lead and swung at a .423 clip. Humphrey led RU adding four kills to her stat line. The Scarlet Knights had a late scoring run with four unanswered. Back-to-back kills by Humphrey along with a Lauren DeLo ace saw Rutgers trail 22-15.
  • SET 3 (21-25) | Rutgers took a nine-point Nittany Lion advantage down to three points late in the third set.  Penn State was up 16-7 when a Sasha Stotler solo block started some momentum as RU went on to outscore the Lions 11-5. During the Scarlet Knight surge, PSU committed six errors while points also came from back-to-back dump kills from Lauren DeLo. Stotler teamed with Kinkela at the net to cap the outburst with Rutgers down 22-19. Two more Nittany Lions errors prevented the hosts from capturing match point with Rutgers still in the battle at 24-21 before Penn State prevailed.
