No. 21 Field Hockey Earns Senior Day Victory

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 21 Rutgers field hockey wrapped up the regular season with a ranked victory on Senior Day. The Scarlet Knights took down No. 19 James Madison, 3-0. The win was RU's eight victory of the season.
The home squad was led by goals from sophomore Lucy Bannatyne, senior Amanda Beck and freshman Puck Winter. Sophia Howard had four saves to record the shutout, her fifth of the season.
The win was the fifth ranked victory of the season for RU. The Scarlet Knights also boast ranked wins over No. 3 Northwestern, No. 15 UConn, No. 23 Ohio State and No. 25 Monmouth.
Rutgers also honored its six seniors in a pregame ceremony. Annie Walsh, Amanda Beck, Isabella Mancini, Rachel Houston, Maggie Lamb and Carly Snarksi were all honored with their families on the field prior to the contest in recognition of their contributions to the program.
Rutgers capitalized off a penalty corner to get on the board first 20 minutes into the contest. Marique Dieudonne took the shot from the top, and Lucy Bannatyne was well positioned in front to get a tip on the ball and put RU ahead.
In the third quarter, the Scarlet Knights added a tally. After the initial pressure was cleared away, Amanda Beck got to the loose ball in space. On Senior Day, the senior blasted home her second goal of the season for a 2-0 edge.
Late in the game, RU added a final goal. Off a corner, Puck Winter blasted the ball home for her second goal of the season, finalizing the 3-0 score.
The game wrapped up the regular season slate for Rutgers. Next up is the Big Ten Tournament. Rutgers earned the No. 6 seed in the bracket, and will face No. 3 Northwestern on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. That game will begin at 5 p.m. and is a rematch of RU's earlier victory of then No. 3 ranked Northwestern on October 8.
