EVANSTON, Ill. – Rutgers volleyball was back out on the road on Friday night in Big Ten action dropping a 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 match to Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

STANDOUT STATS

Freshman Taylor Humphrey posted a team-high eight kills with junior Kristina Grkovic hitting .467 with seven kills on 15 attacks.
Redshirt junior Lauren DeLo handed out 24 assists.
Redshirt freshman Alissa Kinkela logged eight digs.

KEY MOMENTS

SET 1 (12-25) | The Wildcats hit a blistering .538 in the opening frame and jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start. The Scarlet Knights put together a 3-1 run to trail 12-8, but from there Northwestern produced an 8-1 run for a 20-9 lead.
SET 2 (19-25) | The set remained close early as one of four kills from Kristina Grkovic in the set had the Scarlet Knights trailing 10-7. The Wildcats, however, furthered its advantage behind a 6-2 run to go ahead 16-8. Kinkela, who had five kills in the second set, gave Rutgers some momentum with back-to-back attacks for points and an ace. Taylor Humphrey also served up a point as RU trailed 19-15. The Scarlet Knights narrowed the gap to four again late and pulled within 22-18.
SET 3 (22-25) | The final frame was close early as well with Rutgers within a point down 9-8. The Wildcats scored the next four straight and went out to its largest lead of the set at 20-15. A trio of Northwestern errors kept the Scarlet Knights in the game while a Humphrey attack saw Rutgers down 21-19. Humphrey's eighth kill of the night and an ace by Grkovic whittled the Wildcat lead down to two at 23-21. Northwestern, however, pulled out the victory.

Rutgers is back home at Jersey Mike's Arena on Sunday, Oct. 9 for a 1 p.m. match with Maryland on Title IX/Alumnae Day.
