EAST LANSING, Mich. – Rutgers football (4-6, 1-6) fell on the road to Michigan State (5-5, 3-4), 27-21, on Saturday at Spartan Stadium.

RB Kyle Monangai had a career day, posting 162 rushing yards to set a program record for a Big Ten game. It was also his first career 100-yard game.

QB Gavin Wimsatt went 20-for-34 passing for 236 yards and two touchdowns, all career bests. WR Shameen Jones and RB Aaron Young hauled in touchdowns, with TE Johnny Langan registering 73 yards receiving.

The Scarlet Knights also outgained the Spartans in total yards by a mark of 460-453.

FIRST HALF
RU's defense started the game strong, forcing a Spartan punt on the game's opening drive and then turning the ball over on downs on MSU's second drive. Michigan State would break through on a 26-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead towards the end of the first quarter.

The Scarlet Knights bounced back in the second quarter, with Wimsatt finding Young on an 18-yard pass for a touchdown to tie the game at seven. It was Young's first touchdown of the season and eighth of his career.

Michigan State scored on a two-yard rush late in the half to take a 14-7 lead after two quarters of play.

SECOND HALF
The Spartans extended their lead in the third quarter, converting on a long touchdown pass to extend their lead to 21-7. But the Scarlet Knights once again had an answer, using a 25-yard rush by WR Aron Cruickshank to set up a one-yard touchdown run by Langan.

RU's defense forced another MSU punt to take back the ball down 21-14 going into the fourth quarter. The Spartans would kick a pair of fourth-quarter field goals to extend their lead to 27-14.

On a 4th-and-28 play, Wimsatt found Jones on a 31-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 27-21 with under a minute remaining. Michigan State, however, recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory.
