PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is currently accepting nominations for the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame.
The deadline to submit nominations to be considered for the Class of 2023 fall induction is January 31, 2023.
Please provide as much supporting documentation (newspaper articles, copies of award recognitions, rankings of team/individual records, etc.) to your submission(s) in order for the Committee to properly review, verify and consider the nomination.

To be eligible, an inductee must satisfy the qualifications in one of the following five sections:
Student-Athlete - An inductee may be a former Rutgers University athlete who has performed with excellence and lettered in a varsity or intercollegiate sport and whose athletic eligibility has expired at least five (5) years prior to nomination. The inductee must have brought significant distinction to him/herself and to Rutgers University because of successful athletic endeavors. The inductee must have been a dedicated individual who demonstrates high qualities of character and leadership. Inductees must have been enrolled at Rutgers for a minimum of two (2) years and departed in good academic standing. The inductee may be living or deceased. The inductee must be an individual who attained outstanding athletic accomplishments as a student-athlete and/or beyond the recipient's collegiate career. Examples would include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Named an All-American (Academic or Performance-based)
- Won an individual national championship
- Set a world record
- Olympic Medalist (Individual or Team Sport)
- All-Conference First Team
- Led the nation or conference in a recognized statistical category
- Accolades received in professional sports career
Team - Rutgers University teams that have distinguished themselves both on and off the field during a specific season may be an inductee. At least five (5) years must have passed since the season under consideration. Desirable qualifications would include:
- Undefeated regular seasons
- Conference Championship
- Advanced significantly in NCAA Championship
- Competed in a major bowl
Coach - An inductee may be a former Rutgers University coach who successfully distinguished him/herself by demonstrating exceptional leadership, character, and expertise in his/her sport. The inductee must have coached a varsity or intercollegiate sport at Rutgers for at least five (5) years. A period of five (5) years must have passed since the coach ended his/her career at Rutgers. The five-year waiting period can be waived following recommendation of the committee and approval of Director of Athletics if the coach ends his/her career with the Rutgers University athletic program. The inductee may be living or deceased. Desirable qualifications include:
- Outstanding win-loss record
- Conference Championships
- National Championships
- Achievement in public life
Athletic Administrator - An inductee may be a former Rutgers University athletic department administrator who has successfully distinguished him/herself by demonstrating exceptional leadership and character. The inductee must have shown great loyalty to the university community. He/she must have demonstrated a passion for success of Rutgers athletics while providing a vision for the future. A period of five (5) years must have passed since the administrator ended his/her career. The five-year waiting period can be waived if the administrator ends his/her career with the Rutgers University athletic program. Desirable qualifications include:
- Overall success of athletic teams as measured by criteria such as Directors' Cup Standings
- Recognition by professional organizations such as NACDA, NACMA, CoSIDA, CAMBA, CEFMA, NAADD or NAATSO
- Major fund-raising successes
- Oversight on planning and construction of athletic facilities
Special Contributor - An inductee may be an individual who has contributed to the successes of Rutgers intercollegiate athletics but does not fall into the category of Student-Athlete, Coach or Athletic Administrator.
