How it Happened

  • Both teams traded points to start the second period but OSU stayed in front, 30-10. The opposition hit its third three of the day and forced a Rutgers' timeout at the 8:12 mark.
  • Out of the break, Brown hit a shot from deep and followed up with a three-point play to make the score 36-18.
  • Ohio State added three points before the Scarlet Knights scored on back-to-back possessions to once again cut the deficit, 39-23. With 20 seconds left in the first half, RU held the Buckeyes to 0-of-5 from the field and scoreless for over four minutes.
  • Ohio State ended the first half with the 43-28 advantage.
  • Rutgers came out hot in the third, outscoring Ohio State 7-2 in the opening minutes to cut the difference to 10, 45-35.
  • Both teams went on to once against trade baskets before RU strung together a pair of layups to put the game within single digits, 50-41, thanks to scores from Smikle and Carter.
  • The Scarlet Knights continued to keep the score close, at the 2:50 media timeout. Ohio State ended the third with the 12-point lead, 61-49.
  • The Buckeyes started off the fourth netting consecutive buckets before Chyna Cornwell added a layup at the 8:48 mark.
  • Both teams stayed even through the middle of the fourth, alternating trips up and down the floor. Rutgers strung together a five-point run to force an Ohio State timeout with just over two minutes to play, 79-68.
  • The Buckeyes finished strong however, hanging on for the 82-70 victory.
