Wrestling Names Buxton Volunteer Assistant

PISCATWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling head coach Scott Goodale has named Jeff Buxton a volunteer assistant, announced Tuesday. Currently the head coach of the Scarlet Knights Wrestling Club (SKWC), Buxton brings more than 40 years of coaching experience to Goodale's program.

"Coach Buxton is already in our room as a member of the SKWC, so adding him to the bench is an easy transition," Goodale said. "We are fortunate to be around one of the top coaches and technicians this sport has to offer, and our staff and our guys love learning from him."

Prior to his arrival last year with the SKWC, Buxton served as the head coach of the Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club from 2012-21. During his tenure, Buxton was also named the coach of the U.S. Freestyle World Team in 2019, which competed in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Before his tenure at Lehigh Valley, Buxton was one of the nation's top high school coaches at national power Blair Academy from 1982-2012. During his 30 years at the helm of Blair, Buxton captured 30 National Prep team titles. His wrestlers went on to win 12 national titles and earn 41 All-America laurels.

For many years, Buxton was active in USA Wrestling's New Jersey state association, coaching with Team New Jersey at the USMC Junior and Cadet Nationals, helping coach numerous national champions and All-Americans. He also served on the New Jersey Coaches Council.

On the mat, Buxton was an NCAA qualifier for the University of Rhode Island and a New England Conference champion. He received USA Wrestling's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and is a member of the Rhode Island Hall of Fame.
