BRONX, N.Y. – In a weekend that saw two school records set and another one tied, Rutgers track and field turned in 11 event wins and 53 personal records at the Rutgers Open Saturday.
Courteney Campbell established a new height in the high jump, while
Alex Carlson earned her fourth career school record with her time in the 1,000-meter.
"It's been great to see this team continue to grow," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Bobby Farrell. "We've had over 200 personal records this season. The majority of this team has shown a lot of grit, perseverance and determination. It's nice to see them reap the rewards of their hard work. Now it's time to get some rest and prepare for the Big Ten Championship in two weeks."
Campbell hit 1.82m (5' 11.5") on her final pass at the height to improve her school-record mark by a quarter of an inch and secure an event win for the Scarlet Knights. She earned sole possession of the record earlier in the season at the Battle in Beantown (Jan. 22).
Carlson added to an already impressive freshman season, capturing the fourth school record of her career as she placed first in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:48.13. It gives the rookie indoor records in the mile, 3,000-meter, distance medley relay and 1,000-meter. Carlson also raced the 800-meter, finishing second with a time of 2:08.77.
Competing at the Armory Track and Field Center, the meet served as the final tune-up before Big Ten Championship action in two weeks. The Scarlet Knights also honored the program's upperclassmen with a senior ceremony on Saturday. There were six victories on the track and five wins in field events on the men's and women's side combined.
