STORRS, CONN. – Wrapping up a two-match weekend on the road, Rutgers tennis shut out UConn by a score of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights picked up their fourth victory of the season.
"Having two back-to-back matches is always tough. Saturday did not go the way that we hoped, but we regrouped together and bounced back to sweep the match on Sunday. I am really proud of everyone's effort and support. It was overall a hard fought weekend and I am really happy with how we competed," said senior Sydney Kaplan.
Rutgers jumped out to an early advantage with the team doubles point. Senior Tess Fisher and freshman Minchae Kim remained undefeated at the No. 1 spot with a 6-2 victory. At the No. 2 position, seniors Kristiana Zahare and Kaplan added a 6-2 win as well for the advantage.
Freshman Jackeline Lopez led the team with her first win at the No. 1 spot, earning a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 11-9 victory. Lopez owns five singles wins on the season across the No. 1 and 2 spots.
