ANN ARBOR, MI. – Rutgers will have to wait at least another year in search of their first win in Ann Arbor.
The Scarlet Knights were defeated 71-62 by the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday night at the Crisler Center.
Rutgers, one of the best three-point shooting teams in the Big Ten shot (2-12) from long range. Rutgers trailed 32-30 heading into half-time but a strong run by the Wolverines in the second half gave Michigan a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish.
Guard Caleb Houston hurt the Scarlet Knights from long range with five three pointers and a game-high 21 points in 38 minutes played. Center Hunter Dickinson scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds in 39 minutes played. Guards DeVante Jones (14 points) and Eli Brooks (11 points) rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Wolverines.
Michigan out-rebounded Rutgers 36-31.
Forward
Ron Harper Jr. led the way for RU with 19 points on (8-14) shooting but missed all four of his three-point attempts. Harper Jr. added eight rebounds and three assists.
Center
Clifford Omoruyi had another impressive performance on the offensive end with 17 points. Omoruyi converted on eight of his nine shot attempts, added three rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes played.
Guard
Caleb McConnell had a solid game with nine points and nine rebounds. McConnell was (4-9) from the field and played a team-high 34 minutes.
RU forced 12 turnovers by Michigan and scored 36 points in the paint.
Rutgers will be back at home against Wisconsin on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
