ROSEMONT, Ill. – Rutgers women's basketball graduate student forward
Osh Brown has been named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for her performance during the 2021-22 season.
Brown maintained and extended her NCAA active career lead in both double-doubles and rebounds this season as a Scarlet Knight. Ten double-doubles this winter have Brown 59 for her career, while her 9.0 rebounds per game currently ranks fifth in the Big Ten and brings her career rebounding total to 1,366, more than any other active player in the country.
The Chillicothe, Ohio native is closing in on the top 30 on the NCAA career rebounding chart (TCU's Sandora Irvin is 30th at 1,370 rebounds). She is the third player to compete for any length of time at a Big Ten school who has grabbed 1,300 rebounds.
In Big Ten play this season, Brown rose to the challenge and increased her scoring average to a team-high 12.2 points per game in 17 contests, including 14.7 points per game in three wins as Rutgers finished the regular season with three victories over its final five games. Overall on the season, she added 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while converting on 50 percent of her shots from the field. She led the squad with 30.1 minutes per game.
Brown made a quick impact on her new team on Nov. 26 against DePaul in the Paradise Jam on the Virgin Islands, registering the program's first 20-point, 20-rebound double-double since current WNBA star Betnijah Laney's in 2014 against UNC. It was Brown's first of 10 double-doubles this season, a mark that ranks fourth in the Big Ten.
Brown and the Scarlet Knights head to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis this week for the 2022 Big Ten Tournament, presented by TIAA. No. 13 seeded Rutgers opens with No. 12 Penn State at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 in the first round, airing live on Big Ten Network.
