HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – No. 8 Rutgers men's lacrosse dominated Hofstra with a 22-10 win in the team's non-conference finale on Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights improve to 8-1 on the season with the team's fourth road win of the season. It marked Rutgers second straight game, third this season, and sixth in the last two years reaching 20+ goals.
Rutgers got contributions from all throughout their roster, with 17 different goal scorers on the day. RU was led by three goals from
Brian Cameron and two apiece from
Ross Scott and
Shane Knobloch. Rutgers took advantage of a 54-37 margin in shots and played much of their roster in the contest.
Ross Scott had a team-high three assists, tying his career-high for the second straight game.
The Scarlet Knights grabbed the lead right out of the gates, scoring three times in the opening two minutes, leading 7-0 after the opening quarter, and expanding their lead to 10-0 after the first 20 minutes of the game to take complete control.
The Scarlet Knights got off to an incredibly quick start and a dominant opening quarter. Rutgers opened the game in front from the opening faceoff, with
Jonathan Dugenio winning the draw, running down and scoring. That was followed by a trio of quick goals from
Ross Scott,
Ryan Gallagher and
Michael Sanguinetti gave RU a 4-0 lead just three minutes into the game. Shortly after, a transition goal from defenseman
Bobby Russo gave RU a 5-0 lead. Then, late in the quarter,
Tommy Coyne and
Brian Cameron went back-to-back with goals. Overall, in the opening quarter, Rutgers had seven goals from seven different goal scorers, outshooting Hofstra 19-6 in the frame for a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter, it was more of the same for the Scarlet Knights.
Shane Knobloch,
Remington Reynolds and Cameron scores just 75 seconds apart to put RU ahead 10-0 after 20 minutes of action.
Justin Kim,
Brennan Kamish, and
James Ringer also added second quarter goals. At halftime, the visitors held a 13-3 advantage. RU outshot Hofstra 33-11 in the opening half.
Rutgers continued to add to their advantage in the second half. In the third quarter, RU outscored the Pride 7-4. The Scarlet Knights closed out the win from there.

With the Victory
- Rutgers finishes non-conference play at 8-1. That mark matches the 2017 team for the best non-conference record since head coach Brian Brecht took the helm in 2012.
- The eight non-conference wins are the most for the program dating back to joining the ECAC in 2000.
- In the 32nd meeting all-time between RU and Hofstra, RU now holds a 17-15 advantage, and has won the last two meetings (2019 and 2022).

The game marked the final non-conference matchup for the Scarlet Knights. RU will begin Big Ten play next weekend against No. 7 Ohio State. The game will be at home, Sunday March 27 at noon, and have a national television broadcast by ESPNU.
