URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, ILL. – Rutgers tennis dropped its match at Illinois on Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Illini claimed the team doubles point and six singles wins for the 7-0 win.
Senior
Sydney Kaplan put up a strong fight at No. 3 singles. She opened with a 7-6 (7-2) victory in the first set. Her opponent, however, earned a 6-3 win in the second and outlasted Kaplan by a slim margin of 10-6 in the deciding set.
At No. 2 singles, freshman
Jackeline Lopez fell in her opening set, 6-4, before being edged by a close 7-5 in the second. Sophomore
Daira Cardenas almost pushed to a third set as well, but her Illinois opponent took the matchup by a score of 6-0, 7-5.
Over the last 13 days, the Scarlet Knights have competed in five road contests across four different states.
