Brackets, Seeding Finalized for 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Brackets and seeding for the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships, held March 17-19 in Detroit, have been released. No. 14 Rutgers wrestling will have seven competitors at NCAAs, its most since the 2017 season, and brings five or more qualifiers to the national tournament for the eighth consecutive season under head coach Scott Goodale.
Sebastian Rivera (141) earned the No. 3 seed and opens the tournament against No. 30 seed Jacob Butler (Oklahoma). A four-time All-American and two-time Big Ten Champion, Rivera enters nationals with a 24-0 record and 23 wins by bonus. Rivera won his first two bouts of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships last week en route to a sixth-place finish.
Michael VanBrill (149) enters his third NCAA Championships as the No. 12 seed and faces No. 21 seed Marcus Robinson (Cleveland State). VanBrill finished sixth at Big Tens last week and enters the field with a 20-4 record.
Greg Bulsak (197), now a five-time NCAA qualifier after doing so four times at Clarion, is the No. 14 seed and gets No. 19 seed Jacob Cardenas (Cornell). Bulsak finished seventh at Big Tens and produced 22 wins as a graduate student, needing one more victory at NCAAs to reach 100 wins for his career.
John Poznanski (184) is the No. 20 seed and gets a rematch with No. 13 seed Kyle Cochran (Maryland) to open the tournament. Poznanski snagged an automatic bid at the Big Ten Championships and is one of two returning All-Americans in the field for the Scarlet Knights after he finished fourth last March in St. Louis.
Joseph Olivieri (133) makes it three consecutive seasons a true freshman has qualified for the national tournament, as he begins the weekend as the No. 22 seed against No. 11 seed Devan Turner (Oregon State). Olivieri wrestled back to a ninth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships to earn an automatic bid to nationals and finished his rookie season with 20 wins.
Dylan Shawver (125) out-wrestled his seed at the Big Ten Championships to finish seventh and is your No. 23 seed against No. 10 seed Mike DeAugustino (Northwestern). Shawver collected 21 wins as a full-time starter for Rutgers.
Connor O'Neill (174) also out-wrestled his seed at the Big Ten Championships to claim a spot on the podium and an automatic bid to nationals. He will be in a championship pigtail match as the No. 33 seed against No. 32 seed Dom Solis (Maryland).
The 2022 NCAA Championships begin Thursday, March 18 with Session I at noon ET. All seven sessions of the championships will broadcast exclusively on the ESPN family of networks, with all mat feeds available via ESPN+.
