KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Rutgers track and field was able to overcome challenging weather conditions to turn in solid performances at the 54th Tennessee Relays. Despite periods of rain, wind and sub 40 temperatures,
Jasmine Van Note led the Scarlet Knights with a win in the shot put, one of 11 top-five finishes on the weekend.
"We showed some real toughness this weekend," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Bobby Farrell. "These were some harsh conditions, under 40 degrees, rainy and windy. It even snowed at one point. But we got out there and competed really well against some high-level competition. I'm proud of the grit they showed."
Coming off a school-record performance a week ago at the Florida Relays, Van Note earned a win for the Scarlet Knights in the shot put on Friday. The first-place finish gave Rutgers nine performances that placed in the top-three. She recorded a throw of 15.13m (49' 7.75") to take the top spot.
The Scarlet Knights had a total of 11 finishes in the top five at the Tennessee Relays. On the men's side, RU went second and fifth in the 400-meter led by
Micah Wood who finished runner up with a time of 54.06, while
Jameson Woodell placed fifth in 55.91.
Jabari Higgs-Salaam recorded a jump of 7.07m (23' 2.5") to finish second in the long jump, while
Louis Akpadago finished third with a time of 10.50 in the 100-meter dash.
Billy Hill also placed third in the 800-meter with a time of 1:52.15.
In addition to Van Note's first-place finish, the women's squad posted six performances in the top-five.

Icisys Sadler went 2-3 in the 100-meter dash with Hawkins taking second in 11.52, followed by Sadler in third with a time of 11.66.
