PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the second consecutive time, junior Cassidy Spilis was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. Spilis produced a game-high five goals in Rutgers women's lacrosse's 18-13 win over Penn State last Saturday in Piscataway.
Spilis also earned Big Ten Midfielder of the Week laurels last Tuesday after she combined for eight points on seven goals and an assist along with 14 draw controls, eight ground balls and two caused turnovers in back-to-back wins over Wagner and San Diego State. It marks the third Big Ten weekly honor of her career.
The Tewaaraton Award Top 25 member scored five goals against the Nittany Lions to secure her 12th game with three-or-more goals on the season. Spilis also added six draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover in the win to help RU lock up a spot in next month's Big Ten Tournament.
In 16 games this season, Spilis has collected 56 goals, 59 draw controls, 35 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Her 56 goals rank second in the Big Ten this season, while her 131 career goals rank seventh in program history.
