PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Seven student-athletes from Rutgers wrestling – Greg Bulsak (197), Andrew Clark (165), Joseph Olivieri (133), Connor O'Neill (174), John Poznanski (184), Sebastian Rivera (141) and Michael VanBrill (149) – were all named NWCA Academic All-Americans, announced Friday afternoon by the organization. It marks the most academic All-Americans in one season for the program in its history. The seven were also the second most among Big Ten Conference programs.
It is the second academic All-America laurels for Poznanski and VanBrill. To qualify, respective student-athletes must enjoy success both in the classroom and on the mat. All seven honorees from Rutgers participated in the postseason, while Bulsak, Olivieri, O'Neill, Poznanski, Rivera and VanBrill all competed at the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships last month in Detroit.
Rutgers finished another successful season under head coach Scott Goodale, as the Scarlet Knights closed the dual campaign with their most wins (16) since the 2012-13 season and their highest final ranking in the NWCA Coaches Poll (14) since 2017. RU qualified seven to the 2022 NCAA Championships – the most since 2017 – and had all participants score at the national tournament. Bulsak and Rivera added All-America honors to make it seven consecutive seasons with multiple All-Americans at NCAAs. With his bronze medal, Rivera became the fourth individual to secure a top-three finish at nationals in program
