PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football LB
Tyreek Maddox-Williams signed a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, the
team announced Saturday. Maddox-Williams becomes the third Scarlet Knight to officially join an NFL franchise this weekend, with WR
Bo Melton (Seahawks) and RB
Isiah Pacheco (Chiefs) being drafted earlier in the day.
A five-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Maddox-Williams finished his collegiate career with 206 tackles, 14.5 for loss, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 52 games. The linebacker made 27 starts, collecting a career-high 12 stops in the 2020 finale versus Nebraska. He made his last appearance in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
Maddox-Williams, who spent six seasons at Rutgers and served as a captain in 2019, earned an invitation to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January and also worked out in front of over 30 NFL personnel at
Rutgers Pro Day in March.
Maddox-Williams reunites with former Scarlet Knight teammate Sebastian Joseph-Day, who signed a free agent deal with the Chargers in March.
