Melton Drafted by Seahawks

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football WR Bo Melton was selected in the seventh round, pick No. 229, of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Melton becomes the 86th Scarlet Knight to join the NFL after playing for head coach Greg Schiano.

Previously earning an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl in February, Melton ran a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the fastest time amongst Big Ten wide receivers. He later showcased his skills in front of over 30 NFL personnel at Rutgers Pro Day in March.  Melton recorded 55 receptions for 618 yards for RU this past season, totaling a team-best 823 all-purpose yards (618 receiving, 116 kickoff return, 51 rushing, 38 punt return). A member of the Biletnikoff Award watch list for the second time, the wide receiver had seven games with at least five catches and posted two games of at least 100 receiving yards with a high of 125 versus Delaware. The performance garnered MVP – Offense at the team banquet, as well as All-Big Ten by Pro Football Focus (third team) and Phil Steele (fourth team).

In 2020, Melton earned honorable mention All-Big Ten in the media and coaches' votes. He ranked third in the Big Ten with nine total touchdowns, fifth with six receiving touchdowns, fifth with 638 receiving yards, fifth with 235 combined kick return yards, sixth with 47 receptions, sixth with 54 points, seventh with 5.2 receptions per game and 10th with 104.67 all-purpose yards per game. That included being just one of three receivers in the Big Ten to rank in the top six in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He totaled five games with at least 100 all-purpose yards, three games scoring multiple touchdowns and two games in triple-figure receiving yards. The Mays Landing, New Jersey, native finishes his career ranked sixth in the school record book with 164 career receptions and 10th with 2,011 yards. A two-time captain, he played in 56 career games for the Scarlet Knights, third-most in program history.

Melton becomes the first RU player drafted by Seattle since QB Mike Teel (sixth round) and DB Courtney Greene (seventh round) were both taken in 2009.
