Wrestling Set for World Team Trials

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Several student-athletes from Rutgers wrestling will compete at the 2022 Team USA U20 and U23 World Team Trials on Saturday and Sunday in Geneva, Ohio. The champion in each U20 (JR) and U23 weight class qualifies to represent the United States at the 2022 UWW World Championships.
Wrestling begins Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET and runs throughout the day. FloWrestling will provide a live stream of the two-day tournament, while FloArena will have live results. Nico Messina (61 kg), Dylan Shawver (61 kg), Sammy Alvarez (65 kg), Devon Britton (65 kg), Tony White (70 kg), John Poznanski (86 kg), Kyle Epperly (92 kg) and Boone McDermott (HWT) are all scheduled to compete at the Spire Institute.

Rutgers finished another successful season under head coach Scott Goodale, as the Scarlet Knights closed the dual campaign with their most wins (16) since the 2012-13 season and their highest final ranking in the NWCA Coaches Poll (14) since 2017. RU qualified seven to the 2022 NCAA Championships – the most since 2017 – and had all participants score at the national tournament. Sebastian Rivera (141) and Greg Bulsak (197) added All-America honors to make it seven consecutive seasons with multiple All-Americans at NCAAs.
