Devine has advanced to Round of 32 in Match Play round
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (August 9, 2022) -- After shooting 2-under 144 in the first two rounds of play and finishing tied for 18th, Rutgers golfer Leigha Devine has advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay Golf Course in Washington.
The first two days of the tournament were stroke play, with Devine starting off the tournament with a strong first round of 2-under 71 to finish t-12 on Monday. She continued her quality play in the second round on Tuesday evening with an even-par 73, including a birdie to close out her round on the par-3 ninth hole.
At 2-under, Devine finished the stroke play portion of the tournament t-18 and secured a spot in match play beginning Wednesday. The low-64 scorers through stroke play advanced, while the rest of the field was cut following Tuesday's play.
Devine will tee off against Lynn Lim in match play at 3:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
** Update **
Devine defeated Lim 2 and 1 during Tuesday's match play action to advance to the Round of 32. She will face off against Aneka Seumanutafa at 11:30 a.m. ET.
Thursday's match play will be broadcast on the Golf Channel from 7-10 p.m. ET.
Match play pits the low-64 scorers of stroke play against each other. The field will continue to narrow until the 36-hole championship match on Sunday.
"This field features many of the country's best college golfers and Leigha put together two great rounds to earn her spot in the match play bracket," head coach Kari Williams said. "We are proud and excited to see what Leigha can keep doing out at Chambers Bay!"
