Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 9 Women’s Soccer Tops Temple, 7-0, to Move to 5-0

Seven different Scarlet Knights score, including first collegiate goals from Emily Mason, Allie Post, and Mallory McGuire

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 9 Rutgers women's soccer (5-0-0) continues its undefeated start to the season with a 7-0 victory over Temple (0-2-2) on Thursday evening at Yurcak Field. The Scarlet Knight defense did not allow a single Owl shot in the contest, allowing Sam Kroeger's 10th minute goal to stand as the game-winner before Emily Mason, Kylie Daigle, Becci Fluchel, Allie Post, Hailey Gutowski, and Mallory McGuire added markers in the offensive onslaught.

With Rutgers already up 2-0, Daigle lit up Yurcak Field and soccer social media with her Olimpico goal, bent in from a corner kick into the far side netting for her second goal of the season.

"It came up in practice that it's something I've done before and can try to do again," Daigle said. "I said at practice I think I can whip it in back post. My coaches said, 'That's interesting, maybe you should try it.' So before the corner, my coach said, 'Just like we practiced!' I tried it, and it went it."

Daigle's highlight-reel score made it 3-0 early in the second half, following a 10th minute opener from Kroeger, who finished another perfect corner kick – this one of the passing variety – from Fluchel. The 1-0 lead lasted a while before Mason netted her first collegiate goal in the 43rd by redirecting a shot off the foot of Post inside the Temple six-yard box.

Fluchel made it a three-point night by finishing a penalty after Mason was brought down in the box in the 49th.

Post notched her young career high with three points by scoring her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute when Giana Romano played a smart ball across the box. Post used one outside-of-the-foot touch to set up space to deposit a shot into the side netting for the 5-0 lead.

Gutowski got her second as a Scarlet Knight and she did it against her old team after playing four years at Temple. Her 79th minute strike to the top of the net finished a pass from Adriana Kuryla, who picked up her first collegiate point on the assist in her seventh year of collegiate soccer (42nd match).

A couple of freshmen got involved on the seventh and final goal in the 88th. Hannah Blodget kept the play alive with a back pass to Gutowski, who crossed to a streaking McGuire for the inside-foot volley into the net.
