Sep 18 | Field Hockey
Molyneaux scores twice to lead RU to second straight win
Rutgers scored in all four quarters against the Blue Hens, included two goals in a 37-second span to take the lead in the third quarter.
The Scarlet Knights wasted no time getting to work, putting home a goal just 47 seconds into the game. Marique Dieudonne put a beautiful pass across to Bridy Molyneaux, who slotted it home for her first goal of the season.
Delaware was able to equalize at the end of the first quarter, converting a penalty corner with 1:11 on the clock to tie the game at 1.
Dieudonne was able to answer right back for the Scarlet Knights, giving her team a 2-1 lead less than a minute into the second quarter.
But the back-and-forth affair would continue, as the Blue Hens snatched back momentum from RU.
After a hectic play in front of the goal, Delaware was awarded a penalty stroke and converted it to tie the game at 2-2. Nine minutes late, the Blue Hens struck again, putting home a goal with 4:47 left in the half to take a 3-2 lead, their first lead of the afternoon.
The Scarlet Knights came out ready to play in the second half. After entering the game scoreless on the season, Molyneaux picked up her second goal of the game just 3:33 into the third quarter, tying the game at 3. And just 34 seconds later, Amanda Beck scored her first goal of the season to give Rutgers the lead.
The quick-strike Scarlet Knights continued in the fourth quarter, as Guillermina Causarano scored 43 seconds into the fourth quarter and put RU up by a score of 5-3.
Delaware tried to make a run late, scoring with 1:56 remaining to make it 5-4 and then pulling its goalie. The Rutgers defense held firm, however, defending a penalty corner and securing the victory to improve to 5-3 on the season.
