
Tennis Takes on Yale to Kick Off Bulldog Invitational

Rutgers earned two doubles wins and three singles wins against Yale at the first day of the Bulldog Invitational
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Rutgers women's tennis team opened its fall season on Friday at the Bulldog Invitational, facing Yale in singles and doubles play.
"I was very pleased with how we competed today," head coach Hilary Ritchie said. "The wind conditions were challenging, and our team was mentally tough to play through it. Great to see the intensity of our newcomers on court. Looking forward to the rest of the matches."
Doubles
The Scarlet Knights went 2-2 in doubles play against the Bulldogs.
Newcomers Tara Chilton/Mai Nguyen started off the season with a 6-3 win. Junior duo Chloe Brown/Daira Cardenas also came out on top in doubles action with a 6-2 victory.
Singles
RU followed up doubles with three singles wins.
Jackeline Lopez led the group with a solid straight-sets win, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Mai Nguyen battled back to win in three sets (6-0, 3-6, 10-4) and record the first win of her collegiate career. Cardenas rounded out the squad with her first victory of the fall, winning the tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6 (8).
