COLUMBUS, Ohio. – No. 18 Rutgers wrestling (8-3, 0-2) lost to No. 7 Ohio State (8-1, 2-0), 27-12, on Sunday afternoon at the Covelli Centre. No. 29
Joseph Olivieri (141) picked up a top-20 victory while No. 13
Dean Peterson (125) earned a decision to highlight action for the Scarlet Knights against the Buckeyes.
Jackson Turley (174) also collected a forfeit to close out action in Columbus.
Olivieri faced No. 16 Dylan D'Emilio – a two-time NCAA qualifier – and was tied with his opponent in the third period. With 23 seconds in regulation, D'Emilio was awarded a takedown, but a coach's challenge reversed the call and sent the bout to sudden victory. After a scoreless first overtime, Olivieri rode out D'Emilio in TB1 and avoided being scored on after a neutral start in TB2 for the 2-1 final.
Peterson faced Andre Gonzalez at 125 pounds, using takedowns in the first and third periods to secure his 6-4 decision. It marked Peterson's 17th win of the season and his second consecutive of the weekend after he earned a 2-0 decision over Indiana's Jacob Moran last Friday night in Bloomington.
