Lawrenceville, N.J. – No. 18 Rutgers wrestling (8-1, 0-0) defeated Rider (2-2, 1-0), 26-9, on Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville. The Scarlet Knights worked a 8-2 match split with the Broncs, which included a ranked win from
Devon Britton (141) over No. 29 McKenzie Bell and bonus-point victories from No. 15
Brian Soldano (184) and No. 32
Tony White (149).
The win was RU's ninth consecutive over the Broncs, as Rutgers completed its in-state dual sweep after it defeated Princeton, 17-16, on December 11 at Jadwin Gymnasium. Rider's nine match points marked the fifth consecutive matchup the Scarlet Knights allowed nine or less to the Broncs.
"This is one we really wanted." said head coach
Scott Goodale. "It's a match that our guys get up for as well as our fanbase. But we have a lot of work to do up and down the lineup as we get into Big Ten action."
