
Karki and Cardenas Lead Tennis on Day One of Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Rutgers women's tennis team concluded day one at the Princeton Invitational on Friday, earning three singles and two doubles victories. Naomi Karki and Daira Cardenas led the way for RU, both picking up wins in singles and doubles play.
Doubles
Three pairs of Scarlet Knights took the court in doubles play on Friday, facing off against teams from St. John's.
Doubles teams of Karki and Jackleine Lopez, and Cardenas and Arina Valitova, recorded 6-1 and 6-3 wins over the Red Storm, respectively.
Singles
RU competed in six singles competitions on day one of the three-day event. Five Scarlet Knights took on competitors from St. John's, and Amira Badawi faced Maia Sung of host Princeton.
Karki secured her second win of the day in singles play. The freshman earned a 6-2, 6-1 straight-sets victory over the Red Storm's Alicia Gómez.
Cardenas was right behind Karki in earning two victories on day one. The senior battled against St. John's Willa Bay Breunich, coming back from being down one set to claim a 4-6, 7-6 (0), 10-4 win.
To round out the victories for Rutgers, Chloe Brown secured a 6-0, 6-3 win over Camila Ordonez of St. John's.
