Six-seed Scarlet Knights ousted in the quarterfinals at third-seeded Badgers

MADISON, Wis. – Rutgers women's soccer (9-6-4) was ousted from the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals after a 0-0 draw with No. 3 seed Wisconsin (12-3-4), who claimed the penalty shootout, 4-1, on a chilly Sunday at the McClimon Complex.

The two sides played to a scoreless stalemate after 110 minutes of playoff soccer. Allison Lowrey converted her shot in the third round of penalties, but after Wisconsin got two saves on the first two shots, the hosts made all four of their chances to advance in the conference tournament.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

Allison Lowrey and Sara Brocious challenged the Badgers early in the seventh minute with a smart cross and a rolling shot that had eyes for the goal's side netting before a diving save kept it in play.
Olivia Bodmer made three saves in the first half to send it to intermission tied 0-0, including a leaping stop of a direct free kick from right outside the 18 in the 34th minute.
Riley Tiernan came fingertips away from the lone goal of the match with a header off a corner in the 84th minute that was saved by a leaping Erin McKinney.
Brocious helped get the game to overtime by recording a team save in the 89th minute, clearing the ball off the line after a header off a Badger corner kick.
Wisconsin had another chance to end it in regulation, but another corner kick opportunity resulted in another team save off the line and a close-range blocked shot in the match's final seconds of regulation.
Bodmer made four saves in overtime to tie her career-high with nine.

KNIGHT NOTES

Rutgers is 2-6-3 all-time against Wisconsin. The two sides did not meet in the 2023 regular season, last playing in a 2-0 Rutgers victory last season in Piscataway, which was the Scarlet Knights' second win over Wisconsin since joining the conference in 2014. This was the second meeting in the Big Ten Tournament, with Wisconsin earning a 2-1 triumph in the semifinals played in the spring of 2021.

Rutgers will await its postseason fate to be announced during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 6. Rutgers' RPI was No. 34 this week before an official draw at RPI No. 20 Wisconsin.
