Event Set for October 22
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey will welcome its letterwinners back to campus, with a Letterwinners Day scheduled for the final home game of the season. Around the Scarlet Knights game against Northwestern on October 22, the team welcomes back letterwinners back to campus for a day of festivities.
The Letterwinners Day will be held on Sunday, October 22. The day starts with a breakfast at the Rutgers Club for letterwinners and their guests. Admission for letterwinners is free, with an entry fee of $25 for any guest over age 21. Signups can be completed online here. The letterwinners are then invited to the game against Northwestern, which begins at 11 a.m.
The team is looking to build on the great success from last year's letterwinners event on campus. Last season, with the program celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, the team defeated No. 3 Northwestern, 2-1, and were buoyed by a huge group of former players back to support the program.
The field hockey program recently had a special opportunity to welcome a group of prominent field hockey alumns to watch the team practice and meet with the squad last weekend. With longtime Rutgers Athletics administrator Rita Kay Thomas being inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame, a group of eight former Rutgers' field hockey team members were on campus: Renee Clarke, Hallie Cohen, Kathy Conard, Annie Dino, Elizabeth Ferrara, Maria Grant, Liz McGuire and longtime head coach Ann Petracco.
Following Friday night's Hall of Fame Dinner, Ann Petracco, who was the head coach of the program for 26 years up until 2002, winning nearly 250 games and making two NCAA Tournament appearances, attended the current team's Saturday practice, alongside Dino, Ferrara, Grant and McGuire. The esteemed group, which included three members of the Rutgers' Hall of Fame, had the opportunity to meet and speak with the team about their experiences. After practices, the group also had the opportunity to visit the program's offices and look through scrapbooks featuring stats, photos and articles from their time 'On the Banks'. Photos from the group's visit can be found below:
