Women’s Soccer Ends Season in NCAA Tournament at Columbia

Scarlet Knights wrap up 2023 with their 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Rutgers women's soccer (9-7-4) concluded the 2023 season with a 2-1 loss to Columbia (11-4-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
 
The Scarlet Knights were playing in their 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament. The Lions head to South Carolina to play No. 1 seed Clemson in the second round.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • After a scoreless opening half, Ashley Baran broke through with an incredible turnaround blast that found the upper-left 90 after Allison Lynch ran down the sideline and fired the cross back to Baran for the 1-0 lead.
  • Columbia equalized on a set piece in the 79 minute that started right outside the box and led to a cross and header into the net.
  • The Lions took the lead on an eventual game-winner with 1:37 left on the regulation clock after a rebounded shot was put away.

  • In the 62nd minute of play, Allison Lynch played her 8,569th minute of college soccer, the new record for a Rutgers field player, passing Gabby Provenzano. With 102 matches played, she is second behind Provenzano and Amirah Ali's 103. Lynch will leave Rutgers playing in 100 percent of Rutgers games since the beginning of her first year in 2019, totaling 8,597 minutes.
  • This marked the first meeting against Columbia.
