Track and Field Opens 2023-24 Season At Armory
Nov 30 | Track & Field
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers track and field makes its return to action on Friday, Dec. 1 at the historic Armory Track and Field Center in New York. The Scarlet Knights will host several teams from the region at the Second Annual Rutgers Holiday Classic.
"The team and the coaches are very excited to get back out there and compete," said Bobby Farrell, director of track & field and cross country. "We've had a great offseason and this meet is always a good opportunity to get a gauge on where we are training-wise. After this, we can get back to work and get ready for January."
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a solid indoor season a year ago after the program captured five individual gold medals at the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Championships. It was marked the highest team finish on the women's side at the conference meet. The squad capped off the year with three NCAA Indoor Championship qualifiers and a total of 12 school records.
Rutgers track and field returns four of those five indoor Big Ten gold medal recipients in distance runner Alex Carlson, pole vaulter Chloe Timberg and long jumpers Sincere Robinson and Kristina Tossas. The Scarlet Knights captured a combined eight medals at the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
In addition to the solid group of returners, RU welcomes a highly-touted recruiting class that features state champions, All-Americans, NCAA qualifiers and individuals with experience competing for their national teams.
Following the Rutgers Holiday Classic, the Scarlet Knights will pause from competition until the New Year, resuming the 2023-24 season in the Penn 10-Team Select on Jan. 13 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
