No. 13 Wrestling Tames Buffalo, 40-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 13 Rutgers wrestling (5-1, 0-0) defeated Buffalo (6-7), 40-0, on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,259 fans at Jersey Mike's Arena. It marked the third shutout this season for the Scarlet Knights, as No. 12 Brian Soldano (184) and No. 16 Mitch Moore (141) picked up falls against the Bulls.

RU secured five bonus-point victories in the win, which included a tech fall from No. 26 Dylan Shawver (133) and major decisions from No. 8 John Poznanski (197) and John O'Donnell (HWT). O'Donnell earned his first-career dual victory in front of the home crowd, while Brandan Chletsos (125) earned a win in his JMA debut.

"It is good for those guys to get opportunities because they train really, really hard," said head coach Scott Goodale."It is good to see those guys. It is great to see Johnny O'Donnell get opportunities like this and get his hand raised and (Brandan) Chletsos doing the same. There are guys throughout our lineup that are certainly capable. It is a brutal schedule and we are going to need everyone.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chletsos (got the start and opened the dual with a quick takedown in the first period against Jordan Reyes. Chletsos then rode out Reyes with 3:30 of riding time for his first dual win at Jersey Mike's Arena, giving Rutgers a 3-0 lead.
  • Shawver landed six takedowns on Tommy Maddox, with his last securing a 22-7 tech fall. Moore followed with a first-period fall of Andy Lucinsky, as the Scarlet Knights raced out to a 14-0 lead.
  • Michael Cetta (149) faced Andy Lucinsky and muscled a 2-1 win thanks to a full ride out in the third period. No. 24 Andrew Clark (157) closed the first session with an 8-2 decision, as RU entered intermission with a 20-0 lead.
  • Anthony White (165) and No. 29 Jackson Turley (174) muscled back-to-back decisions out of the break to put the dual out of each at 26-0, with Turley's win coming against a NCAA qualifier.
  • Soldano followed with a quick fall in the first minute against Chase Kranitz, while Poznanski worked an 18-4 major decision with five takedowns.
  • O'Donnell closed the dual with a 9-0 major decision, with his two takedowns sending the home crowd into a roar as Rutgers left with a 40-0 win.
