No. 14 Wrestling Returns to Dual Schedule with Penn, Rider

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 14 Rutgers wrestling (5-1, 0-0) returns to its dual schedule with weekend matchups at RV Penn (0-1) on Saturday in Philadelphia and with Rider (1-3) on Sunday at Jersey Mike's Arena. Saturday's dual with the Quakers is set for 7 p.m. at the Palestra and will stream on both ESPN+ and NBC Sports Philadelphia. Sunday's home match with the Broncs is at 2 p.m. and will stream on Big Ten Plus, with Nick Kosko and Matt Howe on the call.
Sunday's match against Rider is "R" Community Day, with members of the community recognized throughout the match. The first 300 fans inside Jersey Mike's Arena will also receive a complimentary takedown foam hand.

- RU had several standout individual performances over the holiday break. Mitch Moore (141) picked up a ranked win and individual title at the 2023 Sheridan Tournament on December 22 at Lehigh, defeating No. 11 Malyke Hines – a three-time NCAA qualifier – by 12-4 major decision in his championship bout.
- Dylan Shawver (133) followed with a runner-up finish at the Midlands Championships, where he collected wins over two ranked foes to advance to his championship match. Competing unattached, Luke Gayer (165) also earned a podium finish with his seventh-place result at the final tournament of 2023.
- In its last dual match, Rutgers blanked Buffalo, 40-0, on December 10 at Jersey Mike's Arena. It marked the third shutout this season for the Scarlet Knights, as Moore and Brian Soldano (184) secured up falls against the Bulls.

- Rutgers is ranked No. 14 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, released on December 20. The Scarlet Knights are one of nine ranked programs in the poll from the Big Ten, joining No. 1 Penn State, No. 3 Iowa, No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 12 Minnesota, No. 22 Indiana and No. 25 Maryland.
- Off to a 5-0 start, Dean Peterson (125) is ranked as high as No. 2 in the country by both Intermat and The Open Mat.
- Peterson is one of four Scarlet Knights ranked in the top 10 by Intermat, which also includes No. 7 Yaraslau Slavikouski (HWT), No. 8 John Poznanski (197) and No. 9 Dylan Shawver (133).
- Moore, Peterson, Poznanski and Slavikouski are all undefeated through the first two months of the season. The quartet is a combined 27-0 with 17 wins by bonus.
- Eight starters are ranked by at least one publication heading into the heart of the dual season.

- The Quakers enter Saturday with a 0-1 dual record after they lost to No. 3 Iowa, 22-13, in their only previous dual on December 1 in Philadelphia. Penn won the 2023 Midlands Championships after seven Quakers earned top-eight finishes.
- Penn features eight starters ranked by either Intermat or FloWrestling, which includes No. 7 Michael Colaiocco at 133 pounds.
- After a 9-5 dual record last season, the Quakers sent eight wrestlers to the 2023 NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- One of the longest series in program history, Rutgers and Penn will meet for the 33rd time on Saturday, with the Scarlet Knights leading the all-time series, 20-11-1. RU defeated the then-No. 21 Quakers, 19-12, last season at the Prudential Center as part of the Garden State Grapple event. Peterson and Brian Soldano (184) both earned wins against Penn in last year's matchup.
