
Tennis Defeats FDU to Complete Perfect Weekend

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — The Rutgers tennis team (7-1) secured a 7-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson (0-3) on Sunday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The Scarlet Knights move to 8-0 all-time against the Knights.
During doubles play, Rutgers claimed the point to go up, 1-0, with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots.
RU then earned victories on all six singles courts. Junior Tara Chilton clinched the match with a win at the No. 2 singles spot.
The Scarlet Knights' win improves them to a perfect 3-0 this weekend following Friday's doubleheader.
"I think today we all had a lot of energy from the first point," sophomore Jackeline Lopez said. "We were aggressive. We were moving our feet a lot and playing smart, which allowed us to win. It was great that we had the doubleheader on Friday, recovered quickly, and were able to win today."
Doubles
Rutgers battled to earn the doubles point, winning two of three matches.
Lopez and sophomore Minchae Kim secured a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot.
FDU evened doubles play with a win at the No. 1 doubles spot, before juniors Chloe Brown and Amira Badawi clinched the point for RU with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Singles
To start singles play, junior Daira Cardenas cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot to give Rutgers a 2-0 edge.
Badawi followed up with a straight-sets singles win at the No. 3 spot (6-0, 6-1). Chilton then clinched the match for the Scarlet Knights, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles spot.
Freshman Mai Nguyen recorded a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory at the No. 4 spot. Lopez (6-2, 6-4) and Brown (6-2, 7-5) fought to earn straight-set wins to complete the sweep for Rutgers.
