PISCATAWAY, N.J. - No. 7/8 Rutgers men's lacrosse earned its first Big Ten weekly award of the season.
Brad Apgar was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Apgar had a team-high three caused turnovers and two ground balls as RU limited Stony Brook to seven goals in the win over the weekend. Matched up against an attackman who had 40 goals last year, the Millford, N.J. native held his man without a goal or assist.
Apgar is in his second season at Rutgers after four seasons at Salisbury, where he was an All-American at the Division III level. Last season, he was limited by injuries, but played in 10 games (two starts) on RU's Final Four team.
Rutgers' defense has held opponents to eight or fewer goals in both games. The scoring defense of 7.50 goals per game is eighth nationally and first in the Big Ten.
Rutgers is back in action this weekend. The Scarlet Knights hit the road to play at Army on Saturday.
