Football Wraps Up Spring Practice with Annual Scarlet-White Game

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football wrapped up spring practice with its annual Scarlet-White game, presented by PNC, on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet defeated the White, 21-19, with Fernando Santana of Special Olympics New Jersey scoring a touchdown on the final play of the day.  
QB Gavin Wimsatt completed 10 passes for the Scarlet for 124 yards, which included an eight-yard touchdown to WR Max Patterson. Patterson finished with two touchdown grabs on the day after he hauled in a 22-yard scoring reception from QB Gavin Rupp late in the fourth quarter. RB Al-Shadee Salaam led the Scarlet with 55 yards on the ground and a touchdown on the game's opening drive.
 
QB Evan Simon completed nine passes and rushed for a touchdown in the first half, while RB Aaron Young added 16 carries for 77 yards to pace the White on offense. WR Rashad Rochelle led all receivers with four receptions on the day. PK Jude McAtamney added field goals from 25 and 29 yards out.
 
On defense, LB Timmy Hinspeter registered a game-high eight tackles to lead the Scarlet. DL Kenny Fletcher and LB Dominick Williams combined for a sack. In addition, DT Stanley Dennis II contributed a sack for the White team, and DB Bo Mascoe produced the only interception of the afternoon.
 
First Quarter
Salaam capped a nine-play, 60-yard scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give the Scarlet a 7-0 advantage. Salaam rushed six times to open the game, which included an 11-yard first-down run. Wimsatt completed two passes during the drive, finding WR Christian Dremel for a 23-yard completion.  
Both defenses would hold strong with no scoring for the rest of the quarter.
 
Second Quarter
Simon orchestrated a 20-play scoring drive that spanned 72 yards, capped by a two-yard rushing touchdown from Simon to tie the game at seven. Young was the featured back during the drive, carrying the ball eight times for 48 yards. McAtamney followed with a 25-yard field goal, as the White team entered the locker room with a 10-7 lead.  
Third Quarter
McAtamney drilled another field goal – this time from 29 yards out – to extend White's lead to 13-7. The Scarlet would start from its own 25-yard-line on the ensuing possession, driving into White territory to end the quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
Wimsatt led the Scarlet down the field and ended with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Patterson, putting the Scarlet up 14-13 with 8:15 left to go. The Scarlet held the White to a three-and-out to regain possession, which resulted in a 22-yard touchdown from Rupp to Patterson for a 21-13 lead.  
The game would close with a special play, as Fernando Santana scored a five-yard rushing touchdown for the White to end the game with an exclamation point.
