Apr 08 | Women's Rowing
SARASOTA, Fla. – Rutgers rowing claimed three race victories at the 2023 Big Ten Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Nathan Benderson Park against a stacked field of nationally ranked teams from the conference and across the region.
Friday saw the Scarlet Knights win the 2nd Varsity 4 and 3rd Varsity 4 with the 2V4 topping boats from No. 18 Tennessee and Minnesota, and the 3V4 outracing No. 15 SMU, RV Iowa, and No. 20 Indiana.
The 3rd Varsity 4 won again on Saturday over boats from No. 11 Ohio State, No. 13 Michigan, and No. 20 Indiana.
"This was a competitive weekend of racing and I am impressed with the way our entire team represented themselves on the race course," said head coach Justin Price. "With five weeks to go until the Big Ten Championship, we took some valuable steps forward in building our team. We have a determined, high-energy group with great competitive spirit, and we are looking forward to continuing to build momentum throughout the entire team as we move through the season."
Rutgers raced in 21 highly-competitive races against a field of 14 teams ranked or receiving votes in the latest CRCA Poll in the third annual Big Ten Invitational. The races were contested at Nathan Benderson Park, the site of the 2022 NCAA Championships.
The Varsity 8 turned in a second-place performance in the afternoon last Friday behind No. 2 Stanford and ahead of No. 18 Tennessee and Minnesota. The Varsity 4 also came in second in a close afternoon race four seconds behind No. 2 Stanford and in front of No. 18 Tennessee and Minnesota.
