PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Two of Rutgers men's basketball's top contributors in 2022-23 have been invited to compete in the NBA G League Elite Camp.
Wing Caleb McConnell and center Clifford Omouryi are two of 45 prospects for the NBA Draft 2023 presented by State Farm who will attend the 2023 NBA G League Elite Camp, which will take place May 13 and 14 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
The 2023 NBA G League Elite Camp gives draft prospects an opportunity to display their skills in front of NBA and NBA G League scouts, coaches, and front-office executives over the course of the camp by playing in five-on-five games and participating in strength and agility drills. Based on performance, select players from the NBA G League Elite Camp will be invited to participate in Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2023, which will be held May 15-21 at Wintrust Arena.
Omoruyi became the first player in Rutgers basketball history to be selected Preseason First-Team All-Big Ten in 2022-23. At the completion of the season, the Benin City, Nigeria native was selected to First-Team All-Big Ten Defensive Team and to the Second-Team All-Big Ten (media). Omoruyi averaged 13.2 points-per-game, 9.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks for the Scarlet Knights. His 72 blocks on the year were good for 15th in the nation and third in the Big Ten. His 325 rebounds were tied for 17th in the country. Omoruyi declared for the 2023 NBA Draft on March 23 and will work out over the next few weeks before making his decision for next season whether to remain in the NBA Draft or return to play college basketball.
McConnell missed the first five games of the season with a knee injury but returned right back to form averaging 9.1 points. 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists-per-game. McConnell averaged 2.5 steals-per-game with 71 steals, good for second in the conference. His 2.56 steals-per-game were good for sixth in the nation and first in the Big Ten Conference. McConnell finished his career first all-time on the Rutgers steals list (221) after tracking down the great Eddie Jordan's 220 career steals with two steals in his final game at RU.
