Women's Basketball Signs Transfer Destiny Adams

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  Head coach of the Rutgers women's basketball team Coquese Washington has announced the signing of transfer junior guard Destiny Adams. The Manchester, New Jersey native and 2020-21 New Jersey Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year competed for UNC the last two seasons and returns back to the Garden State to join the Scarlet Knights for the 2023-24 season with two remaining seasons of eligibility.

"We are thrilled to bring Destiny Adams back home to New Jersey," Washington said. "Destiny brings so many gifts to the table: she can score at all three levels, she is a tough defender, rebounds like crazy and excels on the defensive end of the floor. She is going to bring speed, toughness and mismatches to our lineup. Our fans will absolutely love watching her play and it will be fun watching her go to work in front of her family and friends."

Adams played in 61 of 65 games she was available for during the first two years of her collegiate career. She played in all 33 contests of her sophomore campaign in addition to making four starts. She averaged 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per game and ranked 16th in the ACC in steals (1.5 per game) and 23rd in blocks (0.8 per game), both good second on the team.

The 6-foot-3 guard scored a career-high 23 points against South Carolina State (11/16/22) in her first career start. She also set a career-high nine rebounds against then-No. 11 NC State (1/15/23) and netted eight points, including two three-pointers, in the fourth quarter of the home court upset win.

A graduate of Manchester Township High School, Adams enjoyed a very successful high school career. As well as being named the first ever New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year in 2020-21 from Manchester Township, Adams was also selected to the 2021 McDonald's All-American Girls Team as well as the Jordan Brand Classic 2021 Girls National Team. Adams was ranked 20th in the ESPNW Class of 2021 rankings and will be the first top 100 player (according to ESPNW) from the state of New Jersey to sign with Rutgers since 2015.

Adams averaged 30.1 points, 18.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 blocks as a senior and graduated as her school's all-time leading scorer. She was the 2020 Shore Conference Player of the Year, recording 19 double-doubles. As a sophomore in 2019, she was named All-Conference as well as Second Team All-State after leading Manchester Township to a New Jersey State Championship.
